  1. Shawn, when you first discovered the fade shot and learned to point your feet to the left and open the club face, what was the next few vital tips you discovered that most people were not telling you concerning the fade?

  2. Shawn, when trying to hit a fade i hit the ball terribly fat sometimes. Meaning i hit the ground first. Any suggestions?

  3. @ryanith2 hey dont worry about it dude….u dont “suck” at putting.. Just try harder.. I usually take 100 three puts in a row…try maaking at least 90. Then i do 50 with both hand. Then normal read putts. The more and more u practice ur handicap will go down…

  4. shawn,
    all of your videos are great.I have been adding them into my own swing with great success. thanx so much and keep up the great work.

  5. you are pull hooking do to a closed clubface and an out to in path. the easiest way to hit a fade would be to take a slightly open stance, square the clubface to target and swing along your body line. Its not golf its physics

  6. Shawn,
    Can you elaborate more on the backswing positions for all three shots….ie fade, straight and draw. The fade I pretty much got what you are saying but need to really see the difference between all three.
    The best thing that has helped me is the thought of the wrecking ball and crane. For the longest time my arms were ahead of my turn and I never knew it. Now I hit the ball more solid than ever but with a draw.
    Thank you Shawn for all you do.
    Michael

  7. Great video ! just had one question for a fade do you put the ball slightly foward in your stance. or do you still keep it center ?

  8. Hey Ryanith; thanks for the question!
    First off, the fade will always be a bit shorter than the draw; maybe not by 15% though; more like 5%. You still want to make sure you stay behind the ball when fading and use heavy momentum to compress the ball to that point left of your target; it should not feel manipulated. “tilted Spiral part 2″ is where you wil find the heavy momentum part and “Braced Tilt Part 2″ for the staying behind the ball while staying braced against the left side. Shawn

  9. hey when i hit this shot, usually i get the desired flight path with the occasional straight pull, but i lose about 15% of my distance, even when i flush the ball, no pro has ever been able to help me with this distance problem on my fade do you have any suggestions. i usually hit a 5 iron 195 and play to about a seven handicap (i suck at putting)

  10. Way to go KingCole!
    This is what Hogan, Nicklaus and many other greats discovered too! Shawn

  11. lol you pretty much described how my swing used to look with the arms collapsing and all. on my own i decided i really needed to become more versatile and hit a fade and worked really hard to do so. however, once i was able to hit one my scores dropped 2-3 strokes and i love the new mini fade as my go to shot.

  12. Funny you should say it but when I try to fade the balls moves less then when I try to hit it straight in the same direction :P.
    I can move the ball atleast 30 yards with an intentional fade or draw, but then one should call it a hook or a slice?

  13. Have a look at my “Through the Ball”, “Catapult Power” and “get some lag” videos from the “You Tube Shawn” page of my website at shawnclementgolf dot com…Then make sure the grip and the wrist hinge is proper with my “Grip 2 wrist hinge” and “Bridging flat wrist and Hinged wrists” vids…
    That should do it for you!

  14. shawn, when i tried this on the course today, i was pull hooking many of my shots. my normal shot is a hard draw and i tend to get stuck on my downswing so i wanted to try hitting a power fade. is the pull hooking due to a closed clubface at impact? what should i do to get rid of this pull hook?

  15. Now you know why Ben Hogan, Tiger, Jack and many more use this as their bread and butter shot!! Way to go man! Shawn

  16. Shawn, I’ve never been able to intentionally fade a golf ball until this lesson. After practicing this lesson, I’ve fallen in love with the Power Fade. When my arms stays out during the swing, I can really whip the club through with some authority. The pre-turn and brace tilt allows me get my arms wide and keep hands slightly outside my toe line during my entire swing. Anyway, before today, I wanted all my shots to be a draw–not anymore. The power fade will be my shot selection forever.

  17. I would have to see what you are talking about because from your description you sound like you are bang on!

    Shawn

  18. wouldnt really mind bout that lol thats the feeling most of u want

  19. Hey Shawn,
    I really like the watchdog concept. I get really narrow on the downswing which seems to give me a lot of lag, but on the follow through my arms get really long. It feels like I have the slingshot effect, but on video I don’t get that reverse L position in the follow through with my arms parallel to the ground. Is this caused by being too narrow?

  20. Yes; in the “Golf Pro Lesson Arms Falling down the plane” video you have what you need; for golfers who tend to do like your friend, it will FEEL LIKE HITTING THE FADE you see in this video and he will hit it straight for a while before actually doing the fade;
    Then I recommend you alternate between small fades and small draws to keep the swing balanced;

    Shawn

  21. Just another great video by the best teacher ive ever seen.

  22. e-mail would be fine, thru Utube or otherwise, or thru comments
    Thanks, Jordan

  23. great as ever shawn, im currently working with a student who is trying to stop swinging too far to the right. he hits pushes and draws, not huge ones, hes a good player. we’re working on keeping the arms MORE infront, and letting the arms FALL more. is this merely a feeling for the better players to stop the club getting TOO MUCH behind? oould you elaborate please, thanks. im kinda using me as a medium to help my friend through you! lol
